Toby is joined today by Lexie Garrett, owner of Alexis Drake, a company dedicated to high quality hand made bags, designed and created in her studio in Wyoming.

Lexie tells the story behind the story. Starting as an art major, creating jewelry, becoming a mother and how every season, every pivot, grew her and led to Alexis Drake.

“Everyone else was sculpting these huge, beautiful cheetahs, and I just couldn’t make it work. Everything I made was two-dimensional — until my professor said, ‘I think I know someone who can fix you.’”

“I think that one of the biggest milestones for any artist is when you’re really confident in what you do and you’re okay with somebody saying, you know, I really don’t like that or it’s just not the right fit for us. And so that’s a good thing. I think when we start making stuff and you start perfecting the collections that you’re making, you realize that you’re the fit. You’re the fit.”

“My husband looked at my reusable grocery bag and said, ‘Can you please just go buy a purse?’ I couldn’t find one I liked — so I started making my own.”

“When someone says, ‘Your bags are too expensive,’ I say, ‘I know — because we make them.’”
